This division was founded and operated in Toledo, Ohio for over 50 years. The opportunity as a Packaging Engineer / Estimator will be within our Toledo Facility. The role will function in both the Packaging and Specialty segments of the business. In the Packaging Division, the employee would design, craft, and source materials for custom industrial packaging, protective packaging, and a wide range of packaging applications.

In the Specialty Materials Division, the employee would help design and source materials for specialized applications such as die cut pressure sensitive tapes utilizing our diverse converting technologies.

Summary of Role:

We are looking for an experienced Packaging Engineer / Estimator to develop, design, and cost new projects for the Packaging Division. The role requires someone that is well-versed in all aspects of packaging engineering, materials engineering, and converting processes. In addition to working with the packaging sales team by providing new packaging solutions for customers, the engineer will also develop engineered solutions in the Specialty Materials Division.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Design and estimate costs for new packaging and specialty business opportunities

Develop detailed design and costing of packaging systems based on customer goals.

Work directly with Design and Packaging Engineering resources at targeted customers to design and source solutions to meet their performance requirements.

Help qualify new leads for specialty components and coordinate with sales and operations to determine most effective converting methods and develop complete cost estimates.

Complete CAD work to create drawings that will be used for die construction or waterjet files for manufacturing.

Work with key vendors and on finding the best material(s) for new quotes

Communicate with sales staff on costing

Work on revisions to the designs as needed while maintaining revision history for drawings, tooling, etc.

Work with existing supplier base to stay abreast of latest material offerings and new products.
o Negotiate pricing structures and rebate programs where possible.
o Identify cost savings opportunities.
o Identify areas for green packaging materials in current and future projects

Work collaboratively with Plant Manager and production team to ensure that the opportunities are well suited to our manufacturing capabilities and that they are quoted accurately.

Make joint calls to customer or end user to see packaging in use and to develop ideas for new packaging or improvements to existing packaging methods.

Analyze selling prices and margins to identify improvement opportunities.

 

 

Required Qualifications:

Packaging Engineer & Estimator will require a proven background in packaging engineering. Experience in a manufacturing environment is also preferred, but not required.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in packaging engineering is preferred but not required
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • 2-3 years + of related manufacturing / packaging design/ AutoCAD experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ERP systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with customers, suppliers, and team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative, customer-centric, and team-based work environment.

The business requires in-office presence 5 days per week after orientation (90 days).

Reporting Lines – The position will report to the GM

 

The role offers:
  • Base salary : 60-75k or more for the right person
