Supervises employees engaged in flexographic printing that produces polyethylene packaging, flexible packaging rolls stock and flexo printed bag materials. This job requires knowledge and 5 years minimum of print plates, inks, modern 8 color high speed flexographic printing presses, slitting, and lamination processes. Oversees and evaluates 10 direct operator employees on the shift, performs quality checks and troubleshoots all related problems on the Flexographic Press. Must have a thorough knowledge of Flexographic Presses, troubleshooting, essential duties, of each position, within the printing department and be available to perform those duties as needed.

Directly supervises all employees / Operators / Helpers on the 8 color Flexographic Press (Plates and Inks), Lamination, and Slitting Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include assisting scheduling and sales as needed in assigning and directing work.  Training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, setting, and monitoring goals and providing feedback to the company employees as needed and requested.  Must enforce all policies that are currently in place.



  • Provides direction to department associates on schedule, work instructions, safety, quality, and production requirements (work order directions).
  • Acts as the “go-to” person to be a resource to co-workers regarding assigned duties and assists the Manager in the day-to-day work activities.
  • Oversees the work of the assigned team and trains and coaches operators on best practices.
  • Prepares for job, starts machine, observes operation, and adjusts machine to ensure uniform shearing and printing of a continuous running roll of material.
  • Ensures quality of the product being produced by making the necessary adjustments and checking quality throughout the process until product is finished.
  • Responsible for overall quality of printed sheets. Selects random sheets from each load and checks that they have appropriate color, register, type and are void of unnecessary markings.
  • Performs troubleshooting and basic preventative maintenance on equipment, creating maintenance tickets for non-standard issues.
  • Works with QC to ensure good product when needed.
  • Ensures proper start up and shut down and daily cleanliness of the equipment and department.
  • Sets up the materials in preparation for the next day production schedule.
  • When problems are encountered, determines cause, and adjusts press to correct error.
  • Assists with monthly cleaning of press. Press is thoroughly cleaned, oiled, and greased. rollers are changed if necessary.
  • Maintains written records of production and quality. Records include production time, amount produced, time wasted on corrections and waiting for materials and number of defective materials. Records of color quality are recorded and graphed.
  • Ensures all operators around print presses are working safely and helps manage any maintenance issues that arise (i.e., troubleshooting issues or getting assistance to ensure downtime is minimal).

  • Maintain sleeve, anilox and mandrel inventory
  • Document team member absences, tardies, and performance measurement in required systems
  • Ensure all team members are adhering to company policies, procedures, safety, and HAZMAT requirements
  • Arrange for scheduling of adequate personnel on all shifts
  • Must be able to work up to 10-hour shifts
  • Must have ability to work up to 5 days per week based on customer demand
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Qualifications and Education Requirements


  • Must have a thorough knowledge of all departmental equipment, functions, and procedures; and
  • Must have a 4-year degree OR a minimum of 5-7 years as a press operator/press manager.
  • Language Skills
    • Must be able to read and interpret English language documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, company handbook, and procedure manuals.
    • Must be able to speak and write in English effectively when presenting information to supervisors and fellow employees.
  • Mathematical Skills
    • Required to add, subtract, multiply and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Required to read a tape measure.
  • Reasoning Ability
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    • Must have completed all current training required by law
    • FTA certifications preferred
    • Color Cert experience a plus
  • Other Skills and Abilities
    • Ability to understand and operate all production and testing equipment pertinent to this department. Must possess above average leadership and people management skills.
    • Here are the requirements to be considered: 
      • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Flexographic Printing Press Operations, Prefer Operator experience
      • Hands on Supervisor or Management experience of Operators for 5 years
      • Hands on troubleshooting of 8-color Flexo Press
      • Strong leadership and communication skills
      • Experience in Polypropylene, Polyethylene, Polyester Films for Flexible Packaging Printed Rollstock or Bags



essential Physical demands:
  • While performing the duties required of this position, the employee is constantly required to stand for up to 12 hours, walk, use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee will occasionally be required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds or more than fifty (50) pounds with assistance or proper equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This role requires the employee to concentrate for long periods of time.


hazmat incident responsibilities
      • Training
        • Initial and annual training on elements of OSHA HazCom, and EPA hazardous waste operating procedures, DOT hazmat handling procedures, incidental spill response protocol, evacuation drills and flammable liquid fire safety procedures.
