We are working on a search for a Sr Product Development Hot Melt Chemist for our long term client based in the PA/MD area. This position reports to the Director of Innovation and will be responsible for the development of Hot melt adhesives and PSA application products used in a variety of industries including medical, electronics, industrial, and other specialty applications. We have worked with this well-established company for over 25 years and they are well-positioned in their industry with solid operating profits. This opportunity is open because of a new coater being installed early 2023, and strong growth and expansion with this company. This opportunity has a base salary in the low $120K’s- $130K’s + as well as a gain share bonus. You will need to be based in the Central PA area. Below is the full description for your review:
Reports To: Director of Innovation
Job Summary:
Works with customers and teams to collect design input and develop new product design strategies.
Position will perform hands-on laboratory work using reliable scientific and technical methodologies to
develop new adhesive solutions, robust products, and basic production processes that can be successfully
commercialized. Executes pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape prototype development, scale-up, and
product launch. Focuses on platform technology development, new product development for customer driven projects. Emphasis on Hot Melt adhesives, knowledge of tape assemblies, backing material
selection, and release liner familiarity.
Essential Functions:
-Conducts required laboratory work; including polymerization, formulation, coating and testing
-Develops new Hot Melt products that lead to sustainable commercial revenue
-Functions as a technical lead on product development teams
-Develops design strategies based on robust design input
-Meets technical commitments in order to complete project progression dates and milestones
-Contributes to product scale up and development through reproducibility and validation testing
support
-Detailed knowledge of required chemical and physical test methods
-Responsible for the proper disposal of hazardous waste into the proper labeled containers and drums
-Interfaces with customers on new product applications
-Interfaces with associates from other departments as needed (e.g. cross-functional teams)
-Documents lab work in electronic notebook and project reports
-Performs all duties consistent with established company guidelines, ISO-9001, and elements of GMP
deemed necessary to support the business (as outlined in the Quality Manual)
-Actively complies with and endorses Department and Company objectives
Job Specifications:
-BS, MS, or PhD in chemistry, polymer science or materials science; adhesive polymerization,
formulation, and coating experience preferred
-Minimum 5 years experience in hot melt formulation and product development
-Ability to perform duties with minimal or no supervision
-Ability to manage multiple priorities
-Requires an demonstrated ability to use sensitive test equipment
-Ability to employ statistical analysis techniques
-Ability to manage and supervise laboratory staff
-Ability to maintain confidentiality of company information
-Must communicate fluently in English
-Excellent oral & written communication skills
-Excellent interpersonal skills
-Knowledge of computers & related word processing, spreadsheet & e-mail software-Microsoft
